When to go to Limassol: a seasonal guide
Spring and autumn: the sweet spots
April to June and September to November are the best months for most trips. In April and May the days are warm but not heavy, and rain is rare. Walks along the Molos promenade feel easy, and you can explore Kourion, the ancient Greek and Roman site west of town, without cooking.
Autumn is just as good. September is still swim-friendly, and the sea holds its warmth into November. October brings a few showers, but mornings are mostly bright. If you hate crowds, this is your window.
Summer: hot, humid and busy
July and August are the hottest months, with highs of 30°C and 31°C. Nights barely cool off, so the air feels sticky even after dark. Almost no rain falls, so beach days are guaranteed. Try the town beaches near the Old Port, or drive out to Lady's Mile for more space.
This is high season. School holidays bring families, and prices and traffic climb. Midday is better spent in the shade or in the Limassol Castle museum than on a sunbed. Evenings are the real reward: dinner by the sea, with meze (a spread of small shared dishes).
The Limassol Wine Festival, held in the municipal gardens in late summer, is a fun way to spend a warm night. Dates shift each year, so check before you go.
Winter: mild, greener and quiet
December to February is cooler and wetter. January is the wettest month, with 88 mm over 13 days, and December isn't far behind. Highs of 16°C to 18°C suit walking in town more than swimming. Sun is shorter too, around five hours a day in January.
Still, the rain comes in bursts and the days between are often soft and bright. Hotels are quieter, and you'll get café tables on the old town streets without a wait. Travelling with kids and hoping for beach time? Pick another season.
Winter does have the best-known event of the year. The Limassol Carnival runs for about ten days before Lent, usually in February or March, and ends with a big parade along the seafront. It's loud, silly and very local. Expect rain gear and happy crowds.
March is a good in-between month. It's cooler, but it's drier than winter and still quiet.
