Visiting Lagos in March
March: hot and damp
March in Lagos feels sticky from morning onwards. Highs reach 30°C, and nights stay warm. Humidity is high, with rain on many days, though showers don't always last all day. Expect cloudy spells and less sunshine than the bright, dry months.
You can still visit the National Museum or browse the galleries around Victoria Island between showers. Lekki Conservation Centre's boardwalk is an option, but rain can make the forest paths muddy. Save long outdoor walks for a dry spell, and don't count on a full beach day at Tarkwa Bay.
Events and holidays
There isn't one major annual Lagos festival that reliably falls in March. Ramadan may run into the month, and Eid al-Fitr can fall in March too, but the dates shift each year. If Eid coincides with your visit, expect changes to opening hours and busy journeys as people travel to see family.
Travelling with kids? A rainy afternoon at the National Museum in Onikan is easier to manage than getting caught on a wet walk at Lekki Conservation Centre.
Crowds and practical tips
March is usually quieter than December and January, Lagos's best months for weather and a popular time for visits. You may find fewer holiday visitors, though local traffic can still slow your day. Don't assume lower crowds mean every hotel or flight will be cheaper; prices vary.
For Lekki Conservation Centre, ask locally about the boardwalk and trail conditions after heavy rain. If the ground is muddy, keep your visit to the raised walkway rather than trying to explore every path. And if you want a beach outing, check the boat service to Tarkwa Bay before setting off from the Marina.
