October: hot and very wet

October feels hot, sticky and often overcast. The high reaches 30°C, and rain falls on 28 days, with little daily sunshine. Showers can interrupt plans and leave streets muddy or waterlogged.

You can still visit the National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo or browse galleries around Gombe. Keep outdoor sightseeing flexible, and avoid relying on long road trips after heavy rain. Beach time is less appealing when skies are cloudy and showers keep passing.

Events and crowds

October isn't known for a major annual festival or public holiday in Kinshasa. That makes it a quieter month for visitors than June to August, when the weather is generally better. You'll likely find fewer tourists and softer hotel demand, though local prices can vary.

If you hate crowds, October may suit you. The trade-off is rain: it can slow traffic and make getting across the city frustrating. November is wetter still, so October offers a brief window before conditions worsen.

Make a rainy day work

Plan indoor stops for the wettest parts of the day, then visit a riverside café or take a short walk in Gombe when the rain eases. Kinshasa's traffic can already be slow; downpours may make journeys even longer.

Travelling with kids? Keep the National Museum as a flexible stop, rather than tying it to a tight schedule. For Lola ya Bonobo, outside the city, ask locally about road conditions before setting out; rain can make the trip harder. Pack a small umbrella for moving between places, and don't count on a dry afternoon.
