New Year's Day is observed in China, and Spring Festival sometimes falls in January because its date follows the lunar calendar. Around Spring Festival, travel gets busy and some shops or attractions may close. Check local opening arrangements if your dates overlap. Away from the holiday, January is generally quieter than April to May and September to October, Jining's popular visiting seasons. You may find better-value stays than in those months, though prices vary. For people who prefer calm museum visits to busy streets, this can be a good time to come.

Make Qufu your winter day trip

A practical tip: take the high-speed train to Qufu East for the Confucius sites, rather than relying on a long outdoor walk from Jining. Keep the Temple of Confucius and Kong Family Mansion together in your plans, then use indoor stops to warm up. The historic lanes around the sites can be cold after sunset, so head back before the evening gets too late. January's limited daylight makes a focused Qufu visit more comfortable than trying to fit in Weishan Lake as well.
