Best Time to Visit Jinhua

Autumn is the sweet spot

October and November are the best months here, and it's easy to see why. October is the driest of the year, with just 8 rainy days, and it gets the most sun. Days are mild at around 24°C, and evenings cool off nicely. November is cooler, near 19°C, with a bit more rain.

This is the time for Jinhua's outdoor sights. You can climb Mount Jinhua (Jinhuashan) and explore the Shuanglong and Binghúhu caves without the sticky air. Walk the old lanes of Tangxi or the Bayong area by the river. Travelling with kids? Autumn is your easiest bet.

Spring and the plum rains

March and April warm up fast, but they're grey and damp. Expect rain on about half the days. It's fine for a city break, and it suits tea and food trips. Try Jinhua ham, the city's famous salt-cured ham, in a local restaurant.

May and June are the wet stretch. June is the wettest month, with 325 mm over 20 days and only about two hours of sun a day. Locals call this the plum rain season (meiyu). Hiking gets muddy, and views often vanish into cloud. If you must come, keep your plans flexible and lean on indoor stops such as museums.

Summer heat and winter chill

July and August are the hottest months, tied at 32°C by day, and nights stay warm at 24–25°C. The air feels heavy at 83% humidity. Afternoons are for air-conditioned cafés and caves, which stay cool inside. Mornings and evenings are better for walking by the river.

Winter is cold but not harsh. December is surprisingly dry, with only 8 rainy days, and it rates Good. January and February are damp and chilly, and the lows come close to freezing. Many buildings aren't well heated, so a warm hotel matters more than you'd think.

Crowds and events

Jinhua isn't a major foreign-tourist stop, so crowds are mostly domestic. Expect busier sights during Golden Week, the national holiday in early October, and over Chinese New Year in winter, when many people travel home and some shops close. Summer school holidays bring families, especially to nearby Hengdian, home to a huge film studio, which is popular with Chinese visitors. If you want quiet streets, aim for late October or November, after the holiday rush.
