Mild days, cool evenings

December is one of Islamabad's most comfortable months. Afternoons reach about 20°C, while evenings cool to around 8°C. Rain is limited, so you can explore Faisal Mosque, stroll around Rawal Lake or take a walk in the Margalla Hills. The short days leave less time for long outings, and chilly evenings are better spent indoors. A rainy spell can make hill trails slippery, so skip them until conditions improve.

If you're visiting with kids, the Pakistan Monument and its museum make an easy daytime outing.

December 25 marks both Quaid-e-Azam Day, honouring Pakistan's founder, and Christmas. Christian communities celebrate Christmas, while Quaid-e-Azam Day is a public holiday. Some offices and services may close, so check locally before heading to a specific place.

December falls within Islamabad's popular November-to-January travel season. It's generally busier than the hot months, though the city doesn't draw the same crowds as Pakistan's northern mountain resorts. Demand for hotels can be firmer than in summer, especially around the holidays. Margalla viewpoints and picnic spots tend to feel busier on weekends.
