October: rain shapes the day

October feels warm, damp and cloudy in Ibadan. Days reach about 29°C, but sticky air can make walking tiring. Rain falls on most days, often interrupting plans rather than keeping you indoors all day.

The University of Ibadan campus and the National Museum work well between showers. Keep outdoor visits flexible, and avoid relying on long walks through the city. Wet roads can slow trips across town, too.

Independence Day and quieter streets

Nigeria's Independence Day falls on 1 October, a public holiday. Some offices and shops may close, while local events can mark the day. Don't expect a major tourist festival in Ibadan that month.

If you hate crowds, October is often calmer than the December and January high season. The heavy rain also means fewer visitors, and stays may cost less than during busier holiday months. The trade-off is that damp weather can limit outings.

Making the most of a wet visit

Travelling with kids? Keep a rainy-day option near your accommodation, such as Cocoa House or the nearby shops in Dugbe. You can still enjoy a city break without making every day depend on outdoor plans.

For Bower's Tower, go when the rain has eased; the hillside steps can get slippery. Ask your driver to wait nearby rather than setting off on a long walk. November is much drier, so if outdoor sightseeing matters most, shifting your trip may be worth it.
