Heat shapes the day

May is a tough month for walking around Hyderabad. Afternoons feel fiercely hot, and the high reaches 43°C. Evenings cool somewhat, but can still feel warm. Rain is rare, so don't count on a shower to break the heat.

Save outdoor visits to Pacco Qillo and the old city for the cooler parts of the day. Shahi Bazaar is worth seeing, but its narrow lanes can feel stifling in the afternoon. The Sindh Museum makes a better stop during the hottest hours.

A quiet, low-season visit

May sits outside Hyderabad's best-known cool-season window, December to February. You'll usually find fewer visitors than in those months, and stays may cost less. The trade-off is that sightseeing takes more effort, and the heat can wear you down quickly.

Travelling with kids? Keep the middle of the day calm, with an indoor break near the Sindh Museum, rather than a long walk through the old city.

Pakistan observes Labour Day on May 1. Some offices and services may close, though it's not a major sightseeing festival. Eid dates shift each year, so a May visit can sometimes overlap with the holiday.

Make the heat work for you

There's plenty of daylight, but that doesn't make midday outings comfortable. Choose short visits, then rest indoors through the hottest stretch. Rani Bagh can work for a late-day stroll, while the cooler months are better for longer walks and a fuller city tour.

For a practical local stop, try Hyderabad's famous falooda, a cold dessert drink, after browsing Resham Gali. It's a welcome pause in the heat. If you're heading to the bazaar, ask locally whether shops are keeping their usual hours; some may close during the hottest part of the day.
