The rain is heavier than in April, but June is wetter still. Keep flexible plans for the Bagongshan Scenic Area, where muddy paths can make a hike less pleasant after showers. The long daylight gives you time to explore, though sticky afternoons can feel tiring.

Holidays and crowds

China's Labour Day holiday falls in May. Huainan's parks and transport can get busy around the holiday, as families travel across the country. If you hate crowds, visit Bagongshan on a weekday outside the holiday period.

The rest of May is usually calmer than the holiday rush. April and October are Huainan's best months overall, so May can be a useful shoulder-season choice. Prices may rise around Labour Day, while ordinary weekdays are less likely to see holiday demand.
