Visiting Ho Chi Minh City in March
March feels hot
March is one of Ho Chi Minh City's hottest months, tied with April for the highest daytime high in the data. Afternoons can feel sticky and draining, even though rain is scarce. You'll get plenty of sun for walking around the Central Post Office, Notre-Dame Cathedral and the streets of District 1.
Save longer outdoor plans for the cooler parts of the day. A midday wander through the stalls at Ben Thanh Market can feel like hard work, and the heat may spoil a long walk along the Saigon River. March is also a poor pick if you want comfortable hiking weather; nearby Nha Trang has better conditions this month.
Events and crowds
Ho Chi Minh City's Ao Dai Festival is usually held in March. The ao dai is Vietnam's traditional long dress, and you may spot performances and displays around the city. International Women's Day on March 8 is widely marked, though it isn't a public holiday.
March falls in the dry, popular season, so visitor numbers and hotel prices are generally higher than during the wet months. It's still less dominated by holiday travel than Tet, Vietnam's Lunar New Year, which usually falls in January or February. If you hate crowds, visit major sights on weekdays and expect a livelier feel around District 1.
Make the heat easier
Take a taxi or ride-hailing motorbike between far-apart sights rather than crossing the city on foot in the afternoon. For a break, duck into the air-conditioned cafés around Đồng Khởi Street, then try a bowl of cơm tấm—broken rice, often served with grilled pork—in the evening.
Travelling with kids? Keep the War Remnants Museum for a cooler part of the day, and leave time for a quiet break afterwards. Evenings are much more comfortable for eating outdoors in District 3, when you can enjoy the city without the midday heat.
