June feels warm and close, with cloudy skies and only a little daily sunshine. Rain is limited, so showers are less likely to interrupt a day out than in May. But the heat can still wear you down, especially around midday.

The Malecón 2000 riverside walk and the historic streets of Las Peñas work well in the cooler parts of the day. Save long, exposed walks for another time, and don't expect much beach weather from a trip to nearby Playas. The sea and sand aren't right in the city.

June is one of Guayaquil's better-weather months, but it doesn't bring the same visitor rush as major holiday periods. You'll generally find a calmer city than during December festivities. Prices can also be less pressured than in busier holiday months, though deals vary.

Go to Las Peñas later in the day, when its steep steps and colourful houses are easier to explore in the softer light. Then head to the Malecón for a riverside stroll. Keep your outing flexible: cloud cover is common, and the heat can make a planned walk feel longer than it looks.
