Galle is generally quieter in October than during the drier January and February peak. You may find better-value stays than in those busy months, though rain can limit beach plans. November is wetter still, while September is less rainy than October.

For a practical rainy-day route, walk from Galle Fort's main gate to the Old Dutch Hospital. You can explore the Fort's historic streets, then stop there for a meal without committing to a long trip outside the walls. Keep your plans loose: showers can interrupt sightseeing even when the day starts bright.
