October is one of Diyarbakir's best months for walking around. Days reach 27°C, but evenings cool to 13°C. The air is much drier than in November, with rain on only six days on average. After September's fierce heat, you can explore without planning your day around the midday sun.

The old city walls and Hevsel Gardens make good outdoor stops. You'll also have comfortable weather for a slow walk between Ulu Cami and Hasan Pasha Han. Rain can interrupt a day, so keep indoor sights in mind. Skip long exposed walks if a shower rolls in.

Events and atmosphere

October brings Republic Day on 29 October, a national holiday in Turkey. Diyarbakir may have ceremonies and flags around public spaces, while some offices and shops close. It's worth enjoying the local atmosphere, but don't count on every business keeping normal hours.

If you hate crowds, October is a good choice: it's calmer than the busy summer period and avoids the hottest weather. Prices are often gentler than during peak summer, though popular weekends can still feel lively. Spring is also a top season, so October isn't always the quietest time of year.

Walk a stretch of Diyarbakir's black basalt walls, then head down towards the Hevsel Gardens. The steep route can feel tiring, so take your time and save the gardens for a cooler part of the day. The views make the effort worthwhile.

Travelling with kids? Break up the wall walk with a stop at Hasan Pasha Han. You can try menengiç coffee, a local drink made from wild pistachio, and rest in the courtyard. October's mild evenings are especially pleasant there.
