October weather in Dalian

October feels cool and crisp, with daytime highs around 18°C and nights near 14°C. You'll get plenty of useful daylight for walking, and rain usually falls on only a handful of days. Compared with September, it's cooler and drier, so long walks around Zhongshan Square or the old Russian-style streets are more comfortable.

The coast is lovely for a stroll, but it's not beach weather for most visitors. Skip swimming and bring a warmer layer for breezy stretches along the shore. Autumn colours also make a visit to Labour Park a good fit.

Golden Week and quieter days

China's National Day holiday begins in October, and its Golden Week brings many domestic travellers. Popular sights and trains can feel crowded during the holiday, while accommodation prices often rise. If you hate crowds, visit after Golden Week, when Dalian is generally calmer and prices are less likely to be at holiday highs.

Outside the holiday, October sits in one of Dalian's best visiting periods. It's a good month for city sightseeing without summer's heat, though November is noticeably colder.

Make the most of the coast

Set aside time for Binhai Road, the scenic coastal route linking several parks and viewpoints. You can walk a short stretch rather than tackle the whole route; the sea views still make a good excuse to pause. On a cool day, swap a beach stop for Tiger Beach Ocean Park or a seafood meal around Heishijiao.

Travelling with kids? Choose an easy section of Binhai Road, then head to Xinghai Square, where there's room to walk and watch the sea. October's comfortable conditions suit outdoor exploring, but keep plans flexible around the holiday crowds.
