October: wet and humid

October feels warm, sticky and often overcast in Coimbatore. The high is 29°C, and rain falls on 23 days, so expect showers to interrupt outings rather than wash out every day. With limited sunshine, outdoor plans can feel damp and tiring.

The rain is heavier than in September and November. Choose indoor stops such as the Gass Forest Museum or Brookefields when showers set in. A clear spell can still suit a visit to Marudhamalai Murugan Temple, but wet steps and roads make the hill journey less pleasant. Save long walks and day trips for a drier forecast.

Festivals and crowds

Vijayadashami marks the festival's close. Deepavali sometimes falls in October, but can also come in November, so don't assume it'll coincide with your trip.

If you hate crowds, October is generally quieter than the popular December and January travel months. Rain also makes it a less appealing time for sightseeing, so you may find fewer visitors and better-value stays than in peak season. Festival days can bring more local activity around temples and markets.

Make room for rain

Travelling with kids? Keep a flexible plan, with the VOC Park and Zoo or a Coimbatore textile museum as indoor options when the afternoon turns wet. Avoid relying on a full day outdoors; cloud and rain can make the city feel grey even when it's warm.

For a local meal, try Kongunadu-style food in the city, then keep your route back to your hotel simple if rain gets heavy. If you're heading to Marudhamalai, ask locally about road and temple access after a downpour. The hill setting is lovely, but slick approaches can change the visit.
