Visiting Bengaluru in January
January weather
January is one of Bengaluru's best months for being outdoors. Afternoons feel warm, while mornings and evenings are cooler. Rain is rare, and there's plenty of sun, so you can explore Cubbon Park, stroll around Lalbagh Botanical Garden or sit outside on Church Street.
The weather works well for sightseeing and day trips. You're less likely to lose time to rain than in wetter months. But midday can still feel hot on open streets, so take a break in the shade around Vidhana Soudha or duck into a café.
Festivals and crowds
Sankranti falls in mid-January. It's a harvest festival, often marked with sesame and jaggery sweets called *ellu-bella*. Republic Day on January 26 brings an official parade at Manekshaw Parade Ground.
If you hate crowds, Lalbagh's annual flower show can make the garden and nearby roads busy when it coincides with Sankranti. Check the dates before you go; the event's timing can vary.
January is a popular month because the weather is comfortable. You may find hotels and flights in greater demand than during rainy months, while December is similarly appealing. It's not the quietest time for a city break, but you can still find calmer moments away from major events.
Make the most of it
Travelling with kids? A morning at Lalbagh is a good fit, with room to walk and plenty to see. The flower show adds displays and crowds, so visit on another day if you'd rather have a quieter garden.
For an easy city outing, take Namma Metro to Cubbon Park station and walk into the park. Then head towards MG Road for lunch or a coffee. January's dry weather makes this route pleasant on foot, but the open sections feel warmer later in the day.
