January weather

January feels cold, grey and damp in Bazhong. Days reach about 9°C, while nights can fall to 0°C. Rain is limited, but cloud covers much of the sky, so don't expect much winter sunshine. The chill can make long outdoor walks less pleasant, especially after dark.

You can still explore Bazhong's museums and historic streets, or visit Enyang Ancient Town between showers. Keep outdoor plans flexible: wet paths and low cloud can take the shine off a countryside outing. December is a little milder and drier; February is milder but wetter.

Holidays and crowds

January is usually a quieter time to visit than March and April, two of Bazhong's better-known travel months. You're less likely to find busy sights, and accommodation demand is generally lower. But prices and crowds can rise around the Lunar New Year, which sometimes falls in January and brings a major wave of travel across China.

If you hate crowds, choose dates away from the Lunar New Year travel period. The public holiday on January 1 may also bring local visitors, though it's not the main travel rush.

Making the most of your visit

With just over two hours of sun a day on average, plan your sightseeing around the daylight rather than expecting bright afternoons. Enyang Ancient Town works well for a relaxed wander, with time indoors at a café if the drizzle sets in. Save long, exposed countryside walks for a clearer day.

Travelling with kids? Keep a warm indoor stop in your Enyang plans, so a cold spell doesn't end the outing early. The town's old lanes can be slippery when damp, so take care on the stone paving. A bowl of hot Sichuan noodles is a welcome way to warm up afterward.
