Best Time to Visit Baoshan

Spring and autumn: the sweet spots

April and October are your best bets. April's highs sit around 20°C, and October's reach about 23°C. Days are mild, and you can walk all afternoon without sweating through your shirt. November rates Excellent too, with a crisper feel and highs near 18°C.

Baoshan is Shanghai's northern district, so you're on the Yangtze side of the city. Spring and autumn are the best times for the Wusongkou waterfront, where the Yangtze meets the Huangpu. Wander the Baoshan International Ship Cruise Port area, or ride the Metro Line 3 and Line 1 down into the centre. Luodian and Gucun parks bloom in spring. Gucun Park's cherry blossoms are the usual draw in late March and early April, so expect weekend crowds then.

Summer: hot, sticky and wet

June starts the rainy stretch, with 198 mm falling on 15 days. That's the plum rain season, called meiyu locally, when the sky stays grey and damp for weeks. July and August are the hottest months, tied at 32°C highs and 26°C lows. Nights bring little relief.

Be honest with yourself here. If you hate heat, skip July and August. If you do come, plan indoor stops in the middle of the day. Shanghai's museums and malls are cooled well, and a typhoon can bring heavy rain in late summer. August has the most sun of the year, at 5.8 hours a day, but it's the sticky kind. September stays warm and rates Fair, though the rain starts easing.

Winter: quiet and cool

December to February is cold and damp, with highs from 8°C to 10°C. It rarely feels harsh, but the humidity makes it feel colder than the number. Snow is rare. December is the driest month at 45 mm, and it has decent sun for the season, so it's good for city breaks when you want fewer people.

Chinese New Year falls in late January or February and shifts each year. Many shops and restaurants close for a few days, and lots of locals travel home. It can feel quiet, but the lantern displays and temple fairs in the wider city are worth it.

Crowds and timing

The busiest times are the Golden Weeks: the National Day holiday in early October, and the Labour Day break around 1 May. Domestic travel peaks then. If you want October's weather without the rush, go in the second half of the month. Summer school holidays, July and August, bring families but also the worst weather, so prices and crowds don't always match the comfort.
