Baghdad Weather in April

April feels warm

Baghdad is in spring, but April already feels hot by midday. Highs reach 31°C, while evenings cool to around 15°C. With plenty of sun and little rain, it's a good month for the National Museum of Iraq or a walk along the Tigris.

Save outdoor sightseeing for the cooler parts of the day. The afternoon heat can make long visits to open sites tiring, so avoid lingering in exposed areas then. Rain is possible, but it's not usually a big obstacle to getting around.

If you hate crowds, April is often calmer than Baghdad's best-weather months, February and March, and the cooler months of November and December.

Holidays and local life

Eid al-Fitr, the holiday that ends Ramadan, can fall in April in some years. Its date changes with the Islamic calendar, and shops or sights may close for the holiday. Check the dates for your travel year before setting plans.

Easter may also fall in April, and Baghdad's Christian communities mark it with church services. Don't assume every event has a set date or is open to visitors.

Costs and a useful tip

April sits between the cooler visitor season and May's much hotter weather. You may find fewer tourists than during the cooler months, and prices can be less pressured, though local demand varies. April isn't the cheapest month everywhere.

For a Baghdad-specific outing, head to Mutanabbi Street on a Friday, when its famous book market draws locals and visitors. Pair it with a look at nearby Al-Mutanabbi Square, then take a break indoors as the day warms up. If you're visiting during Eid, check locally before relying on shops or cafés being open.
