Mild days, changeable skies

November feels mild by day, with highs around 19°C, but evenings cool to about 12°C. Rain falls on several days, so you may get a sunny stretch for the Acropolis and a shower that sends you indoors. The National Archaeological Museum and the cafés around Monastiraki are good backups.

It's still pleasant for walking, but don't plan on a beach-focused trip. The sea and afternoons aren't summer-like, and wet paths can make a long outing less comfortable. For couples who like city walks without the heat, November is a lovely fit.

Race day and remembrance

The Athens Marathon takes place in November, following the route from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium. It brings runners and supporters into the city, with some road closures around the race. The November 17 anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic uprising is also marked with gatherings and a march; expect disruption near central streets.

These events add local energy, but they can affect getting around. If you're visiting during the marathon or march, check your route before heading to the Acropolis or Syntagma.

Quieter streets, better value

Compared with the busy summer months, November is generally quieter and often better value for accommodation. It's not empty: the marathon draws visitors, and central sights still attract people on clear days. But you'll usually find more breathing room around Plaka and the Ancient Agora than in peak season.

A practical tip: rain can make the polished stone around the Acropolis slippery. Take care on the approach to the Parthenon, and leave time for a slower visit. Afterward, duck into a taverna in Psyrri for a warming bowl of fasolada, a Greek bean soup.
