Visiting Amsterdam in June
June weather in Amsterdam
June feels mild rather than hot, with afternoons around 19°C and cooler evenings near 13°C. Rain falls on about 11 days, and skies can stay cloudy, so a sunny morning may turn grey. Still, long daylight gives you plenty of time for canal walks, outdoor cafés and cycling through Vondelpark.
A canal cruise works well on a bright day, but don't count on a full day of beach weather. For a rainy spell, duck into the Rijksmuseum or the covered Foodhallen in Oud-West. Families can enjoy the extra daylight without having to rush back indoors early.
Events and crowds
The Holland Festival brings theatre, dance and music to venues across the city in June. Amsterdam's Open Garden Days also opens private canal-house gardens that are usually closed to visitors. It's a lovely chance to see quiet courtyards behind the busy canal streets.
June is summer high season, so central sights and canal boats feel busier than in winter. Prices are generally higher than in quieter months, too. Budget travellers may find September a calmer alternative; it's also one of Amsterdam's best months overall.
A local tip
Take the free ferry from behind Amsterdam Centraal to NDSM Wharf. The ride gives you a different view of the IJ waterfront, and the former shipyard has street art, cafés and space to wander. It's an easy change of scene when the canal belt feels crowded.
If you're a couple who likes slow evenings, stroll along the Brouwersgracht after dinner. The light lasts late in June, and the canal's houseboats and bridges feel calmer than Dam Square. Keep a small umbrella handy for sudden showers.
