Best Time to Visit Aden
Yemen · weather by month, temperature and rainfall
The best time to visit Aden is December to February, when the weather is at its most comfortable for sightseeing and time outdoors. July is the hottest month, with average highs of 37°C (99°F), while January is the coldest, with lows around 22°C (72°F). It's a dry place, with only about 171 mm (6.7 in) of rain in a typical year. July is the least comfortable month, mainly because of the heat.
When to go to Aden: a seasonal guide
November to March: the cool, dry stretch
This is the season the data rates Excellent, and it's easy to see why. Days are warm rather than punishing, and nights stay mild. Rain is almost absent, so you can plan around the sea breeze instead of the sky. December to February is the best of it.
If you want to walk around Crater (the old district inside an extinct volcano), this is when it's comfortable. You can wander to the Aden Tanks, the ancient stone water cisterns, without feeling cooked. Evenings by the Gold Mohur and Elephant Bay shore are pleasant too.
One honest note first. Yemen's security situation is serious, and many governments advise against travel here. Check your own government's current advice before anything else, and treat any plans as flexible.
April to June: getting hot
April and October are rated Good, and May and June slip to Fair. From April, the heat builds. By May, nights stay warm and sticky, and you'll feel it by mid-morning. Sun is still plentiful, so beaches are fine if you can handle the heat.
If you have to travel in these months, keep outdoor time to the early morning and after sunset. Use the middle of the day for the shade of the Sira Fortress area or for time indoors. Rain is light and rare, so it won't spoil much.
July to September: the muggy months
July is the one month rated Poor. It's as hot as June, with the fewest hours of sun (under five a day) and more cloud. August brings the most rain, with showers on about six days. These are short, not season-ruining, but the air feels heavy. Sea swimming can be fine, though the sky is often grey and hazy.
If you're flexible, skip these months. September is a little better, with sunshine coming back.
October and crowds
October is a good shoulder month. It's still hot, but sunnier and drier than late summer. By November the heat eases and the Excellent stretch begins.
Aden has no real tourist high season right now, so crowds aren't the issue. The cooler months are simply when people tend to travel, visit family or hold gatherings. Religious holidays like Eid shift each year with the moon, so check the dates. Local life can slow down around them, and some places close.
For most trips, aim for December to February. If you want a little extra warmth and fewer people, try March or November.
