Mild days, damp walks

October feels cool and gentle in Zunyi, with afternoons around 22°C and evenings closer to 13°C. Rain falls often, and cloud can hang over the hills, so don't expect long, sunny days. The weather is still comfortable for walking around the Zunyi Conference Site and exploring the old streets.

Rain can make paths slick, so save longer hikes for a dry spell. On wet afternoons, spend time indoors at the conference memorial instead of pushing on through muddy trails. You'll get less daylight than in summer, too.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday, known as Golden Week, brings many domestic visitors to Zunyi. The Zunyi Conference Site can feel busy, and hotels and transport may cost more than in quieter months. Outside the holiday, October is calmer, though it's not as dry as November.

If you hate crowds, avoid the Golden Week rush and visit later in the month. You'll find the city easier to explore, with fewer people at the memorial and more room in local restaurants. March and November are among Zunyi's best months overall, so October isn't the only good choice.

Make the most of a wet day

Travelling with kids? Keep the Zunyi Conference Site for a rainy afternoon; its exhibits offer a clear look at the city's place in modern Chinese history. Then find a nearby restaurant for Zunyi mutton rice noodles, a local specialty that makes a cosy meal on a damp day.

Rain is spread across many days, so a dry morning can be a good time to see the site's outdoor areas. Keep your plans flexible, and don't count on clear views from nearby hills. October is a good month for city sightseeing, but less suited to a trip built around sunny scenery.
