The Yokohama Oktoberfest often runs at the Red Brick Warehouse in autumn, with food, beer and live music. Dates change each year, so check the festival schedule before you go. Yokohama Jazz Promenade also brings performances to venues across the city in October.

If you hate crowds, visit the Red Brick Warehouse on a weekday. October is generally calmer than summer holidays and cherry-blossom season, though popular event weekends fill up. Hotel prices are often less pressured than in those peak periods, but can rise around festivals.

Making the most of your visit

Travelling with kids? The CupNoodles Museum is a handy rainy-day stop, and its noodle-making activity gives them something to do indoors. For a clear evening, walk the waterfront from Osanbashi Pier towards Yamashita Park; you'll get open harbour views without needing a long trip.

One local tip: check the wind before heading to Osanbashi. The pier's broad, exposed deck can feel much cooler than the streets around Minato Mirai. If the weather turns, duck into the nearby Red Brick Warehouse instead.
