November: rain still shapes the day

Yaoundé stays warm in November, but the air often feels sticky. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud leaves limited sunshine. You may get a dry spell, but don't count on a full day of clear skies.

The showers can slow trips across town and make outdoor sightseeing less comfortable. The National Museum and Mvog-Betsi Zoo are easier choices when the sky turns grey. Save long walks around Mont Fébé for a brighter spell, and skip muddy trails after heavy rain. Compared with October, rainfall eases, but November is still wet. December is much drier.

All Saints' Day and a quieter spell

All Saints' Day falls on November 1. Churches and cemeteries may be busy with families paying their respects, while ordinary sightseeing can feel calmer. Yaoundé doesn't have a major annual festival that draws large visitor crowds this month.

You'll generally find fewer tourists than in December and January, when the weather is better. That can mean less pressure on rooms, though local prices vary. For budget travellers, November can be a quieter time to visit, but the rain is the trade-off.

Getting around in the rain

A taxi is often more practical than walking between central sights when showers make pavements slick. Agree on the fare before you set off, especially for a longer ride across Yaoundé. Traffic can also crawl in wet weather.

For families, a museum visit beats a long outdoor outing on a rainy afternoon. If you head to the Marché Central, keep your visit flexible: crowded aisles and wet streets can make carrying purchases awkward. Try a bowl of ndolé, a Cameroonian dish of bitterleaf and groundnuts, at a local restaurant when the rain keeps you indoors.
