September feels warm, damp and often cloudy in Wanzhou. Days reach about 28°C, but evenings cool to around 19°C. Rain falls on 15 days, and sticky air can make walking feel tiring. It's cooler than August, though still wetter than October.

You can explore the riverside and enjoy Wanzhou grilled fish, a local specialty, between showers. Save long outdoor walks for clearer spells. Heavy rain can make paths around Wanzhou Grand Waterfall slippery, so skip the outing if the ground is slick. There's limited sunshine, too, so don't count on bright views across the Yangtze every day.

Events and crowds

Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in September. It's a major Chinese holiday, but its date changes each year; expect more domestic travel if it coincides with your visit. National Day holiday begins in October, not September.

After the summer school break, ordinary September weekdays are often quieter than August. You may find city sights easier to enjoy, and stays can cost less than in peak summer. Holiday dates can change that picture, especially around Mid-Autumn Festival. March and November have better weather overall, so September isn't Wanzhou's best month for a weather-first trip.

If you hate crowds, choose a regular weekday and avoid the Mid-Autumn travel period.

Make the most of it

Keep your plans flexible: use a dry spell for the Three Gorges riverside, then take a slower meal indoors if rain sets in. The changing cloud can hide distant river views, so don't build your whole day around a clear panorama.

For Wanzhou Grand Waterfall, check local conditions before travelling out from town. After rain, the paths may be slick, and the spray can make the walk less comfortable. On a wet evening, settle in for Wanzhou grilled fish instead.
