March weather

Udaipur is warm and mostly dry in March, with afternoons reaching 34°C and evenings cooling to around 17°C. You can enjoy a boat ride on Lake Pichola, visit City Palace, or wander the old lanes around Gangaur Ghat. The strong sun can make open-air sightseeing tiring by midday, so save a shaded museum or a long lunch for the hottest part of the day. April gets hotter still, so March is a gentler choice for exploring before summer sets in.

Festivals and crowds

Holi, the festival of colours, falls in March some years, though its date changes. Udaipur's Mewar Festival, linked to Gangaur, may also take place in March or April. Processions and celebrations add local colour, but festival dates can bring extra visitors and busy streets near the old city.

For couples who enjoy lively evenings, the lakefront feels especially lovely after the heat eases.

March is usually quieter and less expensive than the winter high season, when Udaipur is at its most popular. Expect more demand around major festivals, though. The weather is already warming, which puts some visitors off; the trade-off is a calmer stay than in December to February.

A local tip

At City Palace, take your time in the shaded courtyards rather than trying to cover every room in the afternoon heat. Then head down to the lakefront for a view of the palace across the water. A plate of dal baati churma, a local meal of lentils, baked wheat balls and sweet crumbs, makes a hearty stop nearby. March has little rain, so outdoor plans are generally reliable, but keep the most exposed sights for cooler hours.
