February: cold and damp

February feels like winter in Taizhou: afternoons are cool, and nights can dip below freezing. The high is around 10°C and the low around -1°C. Rain falls on about eight days, while cloudy skies are common, so the damp air can feel colder than the figures suggest.

You can still explore the Fengcheng River Scenic Area, but riverside walks may be chilly and grey. Mix them with indoor stops, such as the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall. Save long, exposed outings for clearer spells, and don't expect a warm beach day.

Spring Festival and crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, as can the Lantern Festival, held on the fifteenth day of the lunar new year. Dates shift each year. Taizhou may feel busier around the holiday as families travel, while some shops and sights may close or change their hours.

If you hate crowds, avoid the main Spring Festival travel period and check opening times for the Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall. Outside the holiday, February is generally quieter and cheaper than the popular April-to-May and October-to-November seasons.

Making the most of your visit

February is a good fit for a relaxed city break, not a packed outdoor itinerary. Rain and short winter days can interrupt walks, but you'll have more room to explore Taizhou's old streets when the holiday rush has passed.
