October is one of Tabriz's best months for walking around. Afternoons are mild, and the air feels much cooler than in September. Expect some rain, though it usually falls on only a handful of days. Evenings turn chilly, so long dinners outdoors may lose their appeal.

You can explore the Blue Mosque, stroll around El Goli Park, or spend a rainy spell beneath the covered lanes of the Grand Bazaar. The bazaar's vaulted roof makes it a particularly useful stop when the weather turns. Exposed hikes around Mount Sahand are less comfortable in cool, wet conditions, especially later in the day.

Events and the feel of the city

October doesn't have a major annual festival that reliably falls in Tabriz. Iranian public holidays follow the Persian calendar, so their dates shift against the Gregorian calendar; check the dates for your travel year if a holiday matters to you.

For families, the mild afternoons make El Goli's paths easier to enjoy than during September's heat. October is a shoulder-season choice: you'll generally find fewer visitors than in the busy summer months, while the pleasant weather still draws travellers. Prices may be easier than in peak season, but they vary by hotel and holiday dates.

A little local planning

Set aside time for the Grand Bazaar rather than treating it as a quick shopping stop. Its long, roofed passages connect different trading areas, and you can browse at a comfortable pace if showers pass through. Ask for kuftah Tabrizi, the city's large herb-and-meat dumpling, at a local restaurant after your walk.

Bring an extra warm layer for the trip back from El Goli after sunset. The change from a mild afternoon to a cold evening can catch you out.
