February feels like winter

Suqian is still cold in February, with chilly mornings and evenings and cool afternoons. The average high is 9°C, while lows can reach -2°C. Rain falls on about five days, and skies are often cloudy, so outdoor plans can feel grey and damp.

You can still visit Xiang Yu's Hometown, a historic site with courtyards and exhibits, on a dry day. Keep outdoor sightseeing flexible, and don't count on a long, sunny day by Luoma Lake. February has about 10.8 hours of daylight, but only 4.2 hours of sun per day on average.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, though its date changes each year. When it does, expect more domestic visitors around the holiday and some businesses to close or change their hours. The Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the lunar new year, can also land in February.

Outside holiday periods, February is quieter than Suqian's popular April-to-May and October travel seasons. Accommodation may cost less than in those busier months, but holiday demand can push prices up. Check dates before choosing your stay.

A quieter city break

February suits you if you'd rather explore museums and historic sites than spend all day outdoors. For a warm indoor stop, visit the Suqian Museum, then try local Yanghe baijiu, a famous grain spirit made in the area.

Families who prefer calmer visits may enjoy Suqian outside the Chinese New Year travel rush. At Xiang Yu's Hometown, take a break indoors between the outdoor courtyards; winter wind can make wandering feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
