May feels like a proper step into spring. Afternoons reach about 15°C, but mornings and evenings can still feel chilly, especially by the water. Rain falls on 10 days, so showers can interrupt a walk around Gamla Stan or the waterfront.

Long daylight gives you time for outdoor plans, and Djurgården's paths are lovely for a stroll. It's a good month for sightseeing on foot, but the water is still cold for swimming. Bring a raincoat for sudden showers, and save an indoor stop, like the Vasa Museum, for a wet spell.

May days and events

May is quieter than Stockholm's main summer months, June and July. You'll usually find fewer visitors than in peak summer, though popular sights can still draw crowds on sunny weekends. Prices may be gentler than in high summer, but don't expect every hotel or flight to be cheap.

Getting around in May
