Visiting San Antonio in June
June feels like summer
June is hot in San Antonio, with afternoons around 35°C and nights that stay near 23°C. Humidity makes that heat feel heavier, and rain falls on about nine days. Showers can slow a plan down, but they rarely wipe out a whole day. That heat is the main reason June scores a fair 5.4 out of 10. If you can choose your dates, November to April is the better window. June is still doable, though, if you plan around the weather.
Once you accept the heat, the River Walk becomes easier to enjoy after sunset, when you can stroll beside the water or find dinner nearby. The Alamo and the downtown missions are well worth your time, but walking between outdoor sights in the afternoon can wear you out fast. Save longer walks for cooler hours, or hop on the air-conditioned buses between stops.
Events and summer crowds
June also brings a few events worth planning around. Juneteenth, on June 19, is marked with celebrations across San Antonio, including events around Pittman-Sullivan Park on the East Side. It's a good chance to learn about the city's Black history and join in the local festivities.
Crowds grow too. Summer school holidays bring more families to the River Walk, the Alamo and SeaWorld San Antonio, and hotel prices can climb with summer demand. June is busier than the quieter late-fall and winter months, but it isn't the city's peak. That title goes to Fiesta, which draws a much bigger surge in spring. Families with children may find the River Walk boat tours easier than long walks in the afternoon heat.
A useful local tip
June gets less rain than May, but showers are still possible, so keep outdoor plans flexible, especially if you're visiting the missions. The Mission Reach section of the River Walk links several historic missions, but its paths offer little shade. Take a bus between missions, then explore each site on foot.
When the day finally cools off, head to the Pearl district for dinner and a walk along the river. It's still warm, but the shaded paths and nearby places to sit make for a comfortable finish to a hot day.
