November: warm, with showers

Saint-Denis feels properly tropical in November. Afternoons reach 27°C, and humidity can make a walk along Rue de Paris feel sticky. Rain comes on some days, but it usually won't rule out a whole visit. You'll still get plenty of sun for the Jardin de l'État, the Natural History Museum or a coffee by the Barachois waterfront.

November is wetter than October, and the cyclone season begins around this time. Keep exposed mountain hikes flexible, especially if rain has made trails slippery. A city day is an easier choice when showers roll through.

Armistice Day on November 11 is a public holiday in France, including Réunion. You may see ceremonies and find some shops or services closed. Dipavali, the Tamil festival of lights, is also celebrated on Réunion, though its date changes and it may fall in another month. In Saint-Denis, look out for celebrations linked to the Tamil community rather than assuming they'll happen on a set November date.

If you hate crowds, November can suit you better than the July-to-October high season. It's also generally quieter than the busy December–January holiday period, so you may find less pressure on rooms and restaurants.

November is a shoulder month: warm and often sunny, but less settled than the island's best-rated months. If you're visiting for outdoor plans, keep a city option in reserve. The covered market near the Barachois is a good rainy-day stop for local produce and snacks.

Travelling with kids? Pair the Jardin de l'État with the nearby museum, so a shower doesn't spoil the outing. For lunch, try a cari—Réunion's slow-cooked curry—at a local table in the city centre. It's a cosy break when the afternoon feels humid.
