Quetta Weather in December

December: crisp days, cold nights

Quetta's winter days are cool and often sunny, but evenings get near freezing. The average high is 15°C and the low is 1°C, so you'll want to be back indoors once the sun drops. Rain is limited, with about two wet days, and the city gets plenty of sunshine.

It's a good month for daytime visits to the Quetta Archaeological Museum or a stroll around the fruit market near Liaquat Bazaar. Hanna Lake can make a pleasant outing in clear weather, though the water and lakeside can feel very cold. Save long outdoor evenings for another season.

Holidays and a quieter city

December is winter low season in Quetta, unlike the more popular spring and autumn months. You're likely to find fewer visitors and a calmer feel around Liaquat Bazaar. Hotels may be cheaper than in busier months, though prices vary.

Quaid-e-Azam Day is marked on 25 December, the birthday of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Christmas is also observed by Christian communities. Don't expect a large citywide festival calendar; holiday activity is generally more local.

If you hate crowds, December's quieter streets may suit you, as long as you're ready for the cold.

Make the most of daylight

With shorter winter days, plan outdoor stops for the brighter part of the day. For a local meal, try Balochi sajji, a whole roasted lamb or chicken dish, at a Quetta restaurant before settling in for a cosy evening.

If you're heading to Hanna Lake, ask locally about the road and conditions before setting out. The lake lies outside the city, and a clear, sunny afternoon is more comfortable there than a cold late-day visit. Don't count on swimming: December temperatures make that a poor fit.
