Expect more competition for rooms and busy streets around the forts during the event; elsewhere, the city can feel calmer.

For the parade, check the route before choosing a place to watch: streets near Loreto and Guadalupe can be crowded or closed. On a rainy afternoon, try a covered stop for mole poblano, Puebla's famous chilli-and-chocolate sauce, rather than staying out in the wet.
