July feels properly hot in Palma, with warm nights and plenty of strong sunshine. The high reaches 28°C, and rain is rare. The old streets around La Seu Cathedral are lovely to explore, but sightseeing can feel hard work in the hottest part of the day. Save a swim at Cala Major or a shaded lunch in Santa Catalina for then.

Events and evenings

The Festa de la Mare de Déu del Carme falls on July 16. In Portixol, the celebration honours the patron saint of sailors, with a procession by sea. The waterfront is a good place to watch, though it gets busy around the event.

Palma's old town stays lively after sunset, when the air feels more comfortable for wandering. Try a table near Plaça de la Llotja, or head to Portixol for a seaside walk.

Crowds and costs

July is peak summer season, so expect busy beaches, full restaurants and higher accommodation prices than in quieter months such as May or October. School holidays add to the crowds, especially around the seafront and the cathedral.

For a calmer swim, head to Cala Major rather than the central beach at Can Pere Antoni. At Portixol, check the waterfront procession route before choosing a spot; the narrow promenade can fill up. If you're visiting La Seu, go inside during the hotter part of the day, then explore the shaded lanes nearby.
