Palembang Weather in February

February: warm and very wet

February feels steamy in Palembang, with warm days and nights, high humidity, heavy cloud and little sunshine. Rain falls on many days, so outdoor plans can be interrupted; sudden showers may also leave streets and paths wet. January is a little wetter, while March is wetter still.

You can still visit the Great Mosque of Palembang, browse Pasar 16 Ilir, or take a short trip along the Musi River when the weather allows. Keep flexible time for indoor stops, and don't count on a long, sunny spell for a beach-style day. If you hate crowds, February can suit you: it's generally quieter than the drier travel season, though rain can make some outings less appealing.

Festivals and local celebrations

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, and celebrations may include events around Kampung Kapitan, Palembang's historic Chinese quarter. Cap Go Meh, held on the fifteenth day of the Lunar New Year, can also fall in February. Pulau Kemaro, a Musi River island with a Chinese temple, is associated with these celebrations.

The dates shift each year, so the festivities aren't guaranteed in February. If you're visiting during the holiday period, expect more local visitors around celebration sites than on an ordinary rainy day.

Getting around and costs

February isn't usually a peak month for visitors, so you may find a calmer city than during busier holiday periods. Prices can be more favourable than in high season, but holiday demand may lift them around Chinese New Year. August is Palembang's best-weather month, so February is a very different choice.
