December: warm and wet

December in Mamoudzou feels hot, sticky and often cloudy. The high and low are both 28°C, and rain falls on 23 days. Showers can interrupt plans, so keep waterfront strolls around Mamoudzou flexible. You'll still get some sunny spells, but this isn't the easiest month for long beach days or hikes.

November is much drier, while January is wetter still. For a city visit, browse the covered market or stop for a meal of grilled fish and mataba, a cassava-leaf dish. Save boat trips and other weather-sensitive outings for a clear spell.

Christmas and quieter streets
