April feels mild, with cool mornings and evenings and pleasant afternoons. Average highs reach 17°C, but rain falls on around 10 days, so a wet spell can interrupt outdoor plans. It's a good month for strolling around Kitano's old foreign houses or taking the Shin-Kobe Ropeway for views over the city. After rain, skip steep trails near Nunobiki Falls; paths can be slippery.

Blossoms and holiday crowds

Cherry blossoms often linger into early April, though timing changes each year. Join locals for a hanami picnic, the custom of enjoying blossoms, at Oji Park or along the Ikuta River. Showa Day on April 29 starts Japan's Golden Week holiday period, when trains and popular sights get busier. For a quieter visit, come before the holiday rush.

April is busier than winter, and spring demand can push hotel prices up, especially around blossom season and Golden Week. November is Kobe's best-rated month overall, so April isn't the only good time to visit.

Make room for changing plans

Rainfall is higher than in March, though May is wetter still. Keep a city option for showery days: explore Nankinmachi, Kobe's Chinatown, and try pork buns or dumplings. On clearer days, head to Meriken Park for a waterfront walk, then take the Port Liner to see the harbor from the water.

Families with young children may prefer Oji Park early in the day, before blossom-viewing spots fill up. At Shin-Kobe Station, the ropeway station is right beside the train station, making it an easy switch from an outdoor plan to a city one.
