Kampala Weather in April

April feels wet

April is one of Kampala's rainiest months. Showers are frequent, the sky often stays cloudy, and the air feels damp. It's warm rather than scorching, but outdoor plans can get interrupted.

You can still visit the Uganda Museum on Kira Road or explore cafés around Kololo between showers. Keep long walks around the city centre and muddy nature trails flexible; wet roads can make getting around slower. If you hate crowds, April's quieter feel may suit you better than January, February or July.

Easter and quieter streets

Easter sometimes falls in April, bringing church services and a busier feel around places of worship. The date changes each year, so April doesn't always mean Easter crowds. There isn't a major annual Kampala festival that reliably takes place this month.

April is generally a quieter time for visitors than the popular dry-season months. You may find less competition for rooms and more room to negotiate, though prices vary by hotel. Rain, rather than crowds, is the main thing to plan around.

Make rain work for you

Temperatures are a little lower than in March, and May is also rainy, so April isn't a quick dry-season gap. With rain on many days, it's wise to keep your plans close to central Kampala rather than count on a full day outdoors.

At the Uganda Museum, check the Kira Road approach before setting off: heavy rain can slow traffic, and a short-looking trip may take longer. A covered café stop nearby can turn a sudden shower into a relaxed pause instead of a lost afternoon.
