February: hot and dry

February feels much hotter than January, with afternoons reaching 34°C and little rain. The air is dry, and dust can linger as the harmattan season fades. Sightseeing works best when you keep outdoor stops short; Kaduna National Museum is a good choice for a cooler indoor break. Save longer walks around the city for later in the day.

If you're set on hiking, consider nearby Jos instead. It has better weather this month, though it's a drive from Kaduna.

Events and crowds

The Kaduna International Trade Fair is often held around February, but its timing varies. If it's on during your visit, expect more people around the fairground and busier transport nearby. Check the dates before shaping your trip around it.

February is generally quieter than the November-to-January high season, when Kaduna's weather is more comfortable. You may find less competition for rooms than in those months, though prices vary with events and demand.

Making the most of it

Travelling with kids? Keep the hottest part of the day for indoor stops, then visit Gamji Gate or take a short walk nearby as the afternoon cools.

For a local meal, try tuwo shinkafa, a soft rice dish often served with soup. Ask for the soup on the side if you're unsure about its heat.
