Visiting Havana in March

March weather

March is one of the best months to visit Havana, and the weather earns an Excellent 8.9/10 on our comfort score. Days are warm, with highs around 30°C and lows near 20°C, and evenings stay comfortable. Rain falls on only about four days, and sunshine is common, so you can wander Old Havana's plazas, visit the Museo de la Revolución or take a seaside walk along the Malecón without constant rain getting in the way. February is much the same, but April turns hotter and wetter, with highs of 32°C and more rain, so March sits in a sweet spot.

Even so, the midday heat can make long walks through Centro Habana tiring. Save indoor stops, such as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, for the hottest part of the day. The sea breeze along the Malecón can feel welcome, but don't count on it cooling every street.

Events and crowds

International Women's Day falls on 8 March, and Cuba marks it with events and gatherings, though Havana's programme can vary. March also falls within the November-to-March high season, so you'll share popular sights with plenty of other visitors. Expect more demand, and often higher prices, than in the quieter summer months.

If lively plazas and café terraces are your thing, March will likely suit you. If you're after empty streets, a quieter season may be a better fit.

Getting around

March is a good time for a classic convertible tour, especially along the Malecón and past the grand houses of Vedado. Just remember that open-top rides offer little shade during the warmest hours. For shorter trips around central areas, a coco taxi, Havana's small yellow three-wheeler, is handy.

When you're ready for a meal, try ropa vieja, shredded beef in tomato sauce, at a paladar, a privately run restaurant. Old Havana's narrow streets are easiest to explore on foot, so take a break in Plaza Vieja when the afternoon sun starts to feel strong.
