Goyang-si Weather in May

Mild days outdoors

May is one of Goyang-si's best months to visit. Afternoons feel mild, while evenings turn cool enough for a light jacket. There's plenty of daylight for a slow walk around Ilsan Lake Park or a visit to Haengjusanseong Fortress.

Rain falls on some days, so keep indoor plans in mind. A wet afternoon works well for the National Women's History Exhibition Hall or the shops and cafés around Jeongbalsan. The weather is less suited to a full day outdoors without a backup plan.

If you're visiting with kids, Ilsan Lake Park has room to run around, and the flower displays make an easy family outing.

Flowers and holidays

The Goyang International Flower Festival is usually held at Ilsan Lake Park around late April and early May. The exact dates vary, but the displays and festival stalls can make the park much busier than usual. May also includes Children's Day and Buddha's Birthday; the latter falls on a different date each year.

If you hate crowds, visit the park on a weekday and avoid the festival's busiest days. The city is generally less packed than during major festival periods, though May's pleasant weather and flower event bring more visitors than quieter winter months. Hotel rates can rise around the festival and public holidays, rather than staying at their low-season level.

Getting around Goyang

For the flower festival, take Seoul Subway Line 3 to Jeongbalsan Station and walk to Ilsan Lake Park. It's an easy route, but expect extra foot traffic near the park during the event. Don't assume the same station is best for every Goyang sight: Haengjusanseong Fortress is across the city, so check the local bus route before setting out.

May brings more rain than April, but less than June. You can still enjoy outdoor sightseeing; just swap a long lakeside stroll for a café stop if showers roll in.
