July is hot, dry and sunny in Fes. Daytime highs reach 39°C, while nights stay warm at around 22°C. Rain is rare, and the long sunny days can make walking the medina tiring by afternoon.

Go out in the morning, when the lanes of Fes el Bali are easier to explore. Save the Nejjarine Museum or a long lunch for the hottest part of the day. The afternoon heat can make hill walks and open courtyards feel punishing, so don't plan a full day on foot.

Events and crowds

Morocco's Throne Day falls on July 30, with official celebrations across the country. Fes's famous Festival of World Sacred Music is usually held earlier in the year, not in July.

For families, the medina's steep lanes and midday heat can make a relaxed sightseeing day a challenge. Visitor numbers and prices are often gentler than during the popular spring and autumn months, though summer holidays still bring travellers. You may find more room at major sights, but the heat is a bigger drawback than crowds.

Making July work

Treat the early hours as your main sightseeing window. Visit Bou Inania Madrasa before the lanes warm up, then take a shaded break around Place Seffarine. Later, a taxi to the Ville Nouvelle can spare you a long walk through the hottest streets.

For lunch, try a bowl of bissara, a local fava-bean soup, in the medina. It's a filling choice when you want to sit down out of the sun. If July's heat sounds like too much, April, May and October are more comfortable times to visit Fes.
