Visiting Davao in September
September: wet and sticky
September feels warm, humid and often cloudy in Davao. The high is 31°C, with rain on 24 days and little daily sunshine. Showers can interrupt a day out, so keep plans flexible rather than counting on a clear afternoon.
You can still visit the Philippine Eagle Center or take in the views from Jack's Ridge between showers. For Mount Apo, conditions can make a long hike less appealing; check local trail conditions before setting out. Avoid relying on a beach day, since clouds and rain are common.
Events and quieter streets
September isn't Davao's main festival month. Kadayawan, the city's best-known celebration, takes place in August, so you'll miss its parades and cultural events. September is also observed as National Peace Consciousness Month across the Philippines, though that doesn't mean a major tourist festival in Davao.
If you hate crowds, you may find the city calmer than during Kadayawan or the drier months of February and March. Rain tends to put off some visitors, so prices may be gentler than in peak season, but costs vary by hotel and dates.
Make the rain work
Travelling with kids? Keep an indoor option ready for sudden downpours, such as the Davao Museum of History and Ethnography in Insular Village.
A useful local tip: try durian at Bankerohan Public Market, where you can ask vendors to open the fruit for you. It's a good rainy-day stop, and you can also sample pomelo, another Davao favourite. Bring cash for small purchases, and don't plan a tight trip across town after heavy rain; wet roads can slow traffic. If you're set on Mount Apo, September isn't the easiest month to tackle it.
