Weather-wise, February and March is the best time to visit Davao. Temperatures barely change through the year: highs stay between 30°C and 31°C, so rainfall matters far more than heat when choosing when to go. The rainy season runs over January, July and October; October is the wettest month with about 250 mm (9.8 in) of rain. May is the least comfortable month, mainly because of the rain.

When to go to Davao: a seasonal guide

Two seasons, but not the usual two

Davao sits close to the equator, so it's warm all year. Highs stay around 30–31°C every month. The real difference is how much rain you get and how often it falls.

Here's the honest part: no month is dry. Even the best ones, February and March, see rain on about 17 days. But those showers tend to be shorter, and March has the most sun of the early months. April is similar, a little warmer, with a bit more rain.

From May to October it's wetter, with rain on 24 to 26 days a month. October is the wettest at 250 mm, with July close behind. January is also very wet, which surprises people who expect a dry winter.

Which month for which trip

For island hopping, Samal Island trips or a day at the beach, aim for February to April. Seas are more likely to be calm and you'll see more blue sky. Still, keep your plans loose, because a shower can pass through any afternoon.

Heading up Mount Apo, the Philippines' highest peak? Guides often prefer the drier stretch, so late February to April is a sensible bet. Trails get slippery and views vanish in the wettest months.

Mostly here for food and city life? Any month works. Wander the fruit stalls near Bankerohan Market, try durian (the spiky, strong-smelling local favourite) and eat grilled tuna at a seaside spot. A rainy afternoon is a good excuse to sit in a mall café or visit the Davao Museum.

Crowds and festivals

Davao never gets a true tourist crush, so you rarely need to fight for space. The busiest times are around Christmas and New Year, Holy Week (the days before Easter) and August, when the city fills up for its biggest party.

That party is Kadayawan Festival, held in the third week of August. It celebrates the harvest and the region's tribal cultures with street dancing, flower floats and fruit stalls everywhere. Hotels fill up, so it's worth locking in a room early. It also falls in the rainy season, so bring a poncho and expect to get a little damp.

Come in February if you can. The Philippine Eagle Center and Eden Nature Park are comfortable to explore, and rooms are easier to find. If you hate crowds and don't mind rain, June, July and September are the quietest months.
