April: mild spring days

April feels like a proper step into spring in Daejeon. Days reach about 18°C, while evenings can still dip to 5°C. Rain falls on several days, but there's usually enough daylight for a full outing. Compared with March, it's warmer and wetter; May gets warmer still.

You can explore the outdoor paths at Hanbat Arboretum or visit the Expo Science Park without summer heat. Cherry blossoms bring colour to Daecheong Lake, too. Rain can make long walks less pleasant, so keep indoor stops such as the National Science Museum in mind. April 5 is Arbor Day, a tree-planting observance in South Korea, but it isn't a public holiday.

Daejeon doesn't have one big April festival to plan around, but blossom season draws visitors to popular lakeside routes. Weekends near peak bloom can feel busy, especially around Daecheong Lake. Weekdays are calmer for a slow walk and photos.

April is a pleasant shoulder-season choice. It's generally less in demand than May, one of Daejeon's best months overall, though blossom weekends can bring a noticeable rush. For families, Hanbat Arboretum is an easy spring outing, with room to wander between gardens.

A local route tip

If you're heading to Daecheong Lake, don't treat the whole shoreline as one quick stop. Pick a stretch of the Daecheongho Cherry Blossom Road and enjoy it at an unhurried pace; the route is long, and blossom timing can vary. A rainy afternoon is a good time to swap the lakeside for the National Science Museum, then head back outside when the weather clears.
