Best Time to Visit Jersey

One island, one main town

Jersey is small. You can drive across it in under an hour, so the weather barely changes from place to place. Saint Helier, the main town and the only one we cover, is a good guide for the whole island.

That said, the coasts feel different. The south coast, including St Brelade's Bay, is the most sheltered. The north coast has high cliffs and gets more wind. The west, around St Ouen's Bay, takes the Atlantic swell, which surfers love.

June to September: the best stretch

Our data puts the best time at June to September. August is the warmest month at 20°C. That's mild, not hot. You'll get comfortable beach days, cafés on the Saint Helier waterfront and long walks on the north coast cliff path. The sea is still chilly, so bring a wetsuit if you plan to swim a lot.

This is high season. Ferries from the UK and France fill up, and hotels cost more. Families come in the school holidays, so the beaches and Gorey Castle get busy. If you hate crowds, aim for June or September.

Events add to the buzz. The Battle of Flowers parade in August is a long-running local favourite. Liberation Day on 9 May marks the end of the German occupation in 1945. It's a public holiday, with events in Saint Helier's Liberation Square.

Autumn, winter and spring

November is the wettest month, with 101 mm of rain. Expect grey skies, wind and some rough seas. Some seaside cafés and attractions cut their hours or close for winter. Ferry crossings can be bumpy.

But the quiet has its charms. Winter suits you if you like dramatic waves, cosy pubs and Jersey Royal potatoes later in spring. Those little new potatoes are the island's pride, and you'll see them on menus from spring on.

Spring is a good middle ground. You'll get fewer people, open attractions and wildflowers along the coast paths. Travelling on a budget? Try May or early October for lower prices and decent weather.
