The Cathedral market is right beside Köln Hauptbahnhof, Cologne's main train station, so you can reach it without a long walk in the rain. For a calmer market visit, head to Stadtgarten in the Belgian Quarter; it has a smaller, more local feel.

Try a Reibekuchen, a crisp potato pancake often served with apple sauce, at a market stall. Keep an eye on the ground after rain: cobbled lanes around the Old Town can get slick. If you're coming for the markets, enjoy the atmosphere, but don't expect a quiet city break.
