April is not the best time to visit Bhopal (3.2/10) mainly because of the heat. The weather is much better in November to January.
Visiting Bhopal in April
April feels like summer
April in Bhopal is hot, dry and often draining by midday. Highs reach 39°C, and evenings cool to around 23°C, so the days are the real problem. Rain is rare, so showers are unlikely to eat into your sightseeing. The strong sun is what wears you down, and it's why April scores just 3.2/10 for comfort and isn't the best time to visit.
So plan around the heat. Save outdoor visits for morning or late afternoon, when Van Vihar National Park and the lakeside paths are at their best. Keep the midday hours for the State Museum or a relaxed meal. The Upper Lake is lovely near sunset, when a boat ride is far more pleasant than one in the afternoon.
Holidays and crowds
Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti or Eid al-Fitr can fall in April, depending on the year. You may see local celebrations, and Eid prayers at Taj-ul-Masajid give the old city a special feel. Check opening times around religious holidays, since some sights and shops may change their hours.
If you hate crowds, April is quieter than the November-to-January season, when Bhopal is at its most comfortable. Hotels can also be less costly than in those cooler months, though holiday dates may bring a short-lived lift in demand. March is a touch cooler at 35°C but wetter, with 15 mm of rain. May gets even hotter, at 42°C, so April is the better pick if you're set on a warm-season trip.
Make the heat work for you
Travelling with kids? Keep the exposed grounds at Bhojpur for a short morning visit rather than a long midday outing. The stone temple has little shade, and the drive out of town adds to the heat.
For an easier evening, head to New Market for a meal, then try Bhopali biryani or seek out poha for breakfast. If you're visiting Upper Lake, ask the Boat Club about timings. Sunset is the more comfortable time to be on the water.
